Most of us have old letters, documents and artefacts tucked away at home that tell a story from the past. Each month, in the Curious Mementos Group, one member brings along an unusual article which can lead to a discussion.
The first meeting was about a postcard sent from Austria in September 1938 when Great Britain was on the brink of War with Germany. It was written by a son in response to a letter sent by his mother who was concerned for his safety.

At another meeting, the group examined a heavy silver coloured necklace and locket brought in by one of the members. There was a photograph of someone wearing the jewellery in 1886 but when it was made we could not establish, although there is a strong possibiity that it came from Ukraine. We were all very impressed by the workmanship and the fact that it had not tarnished.

In subsequent weeks, we have looked at and discussed some very interesting curios that members of the group have brought in.
The Meetings are held on the second Friday of the month at The Monkhams Pub in Buckhurst Hill from 2 - 4pm. If you are interested in joining this Group or would like to find out more Sylvia, the Group Leader, would be delighted to hear from you. Please email her via the link above.
